Did you know that the American two-dollar bill was first authorized in 1862? and two-dollar bills were printed until 1966 at which point they were discontinued but only for 10 years they were reintroduced in 1976 as part of the bicentennial celebration and when they were reintroduced in 16976 it was an attempt at government cost-cutting.

The government thought they could save 26 million dollars if the two-dollar bill replaced about half of one-dollar bills in circulation but it didn’t work. This Gold plated replica two-dollar bill featured Thomas Jefferson and it’s been Thomas Jefferson since 1869 but when the bill was introduced in 1862 it featured Alexander Hamilton’s portrait.

In 2005, a man in Baltimore, Maryland purchased a car radio from best buy and tried to pay the 114 dollars installation fee with 57 2-dollar bills. The store manager was suspicious and called the police who detained the man for 3 hours in handcuffs while they brought in the secret service to determine the authenticity of the bills and of course they were real.
